A collection of some of the views in the Jerusalem Hills.
“Jerusalem Hills” is a term for the northern part of the much broader Judean Mountains, which extends into the West Bank area. Sometimes, “Jerusalem Hills,” “Judean Hills,” and “Judean Mountains” are used interchangeably.
The Judean Mountains is a mountain range where Jerusalem and other cities are located. It reaches a height of 1,026 meters (3,366 feet).
A lot of Israel’s history happened in the Judean Mountains. Among the best-known is the epic skirmish between David and Goliath (in the Judean Mountains’ Ella Valley). Any Israeli tour guide can take to the spot where the fight between David and Goliath took place — the former flung a stone from his slingshot into Goliath’s head about 3,000 years ago. While the site itself is not a big attractions (and do not expect it to be one), it is an important historical site — a small spot in the midst of Judean Mountains’ greener areas.
The Jerusalem Hills was also the site that was captured by the Jewish fighters during the 1948 Israeli-Arab War. The United Nations (UN) had designated it to become partly a portion of a future Palestinian-Arab state and partly an internationally-controlled area).
The Jerusalem Hills are a perfect place for those who want to take a breather from the stress of the city life in Jerusalem. It is a lovely touring site outside of Jerusalem where there are several national parks, hikes, cave excursions, and archaeological sites, to name a few.
